Love/Hate Relationship - Malachai 1:1-5
Sometimes we become complacent and start to do our own thing. We think God is working in other places and since we are not part of it, we can become lazy in our serving, giving, etc. If we continue down this path, God will intervene and set us straight in ways that may not be what we want. God chose us for salvation, but that election does not give anyone an excuse to not choose God.

Positional Christianity - Romans 6, Matthew 6:17-18,26
Bondage is uncomfortable for all us. Sin binds us. Examples in the sermon are three men stopped by a state trooper. The first is standing with his hands handcuffed in front of him. The second has hands handcuffed behind his back and down on his knees. The third is on his prostrate on the ground, hands handcuffed behind his back. God provides a way to relieve the bondage. Who we submit to determines who is our master.

Mess Me Up Lord - Psalm 51:16-17
God wants broken-hearted people. Making sacrifices for friends, family, fellow church members, for the wrong reasons, can become a stench in God's nostrils. He wants us to present our bodies as a living and holy sacrifice, acceptable to God, which is our spiritual service of worship. God is impressed by a broken and contrite heart. To get what He wants, God will discipline us. We should see this as a positive gift. By giving more of ourselves fully to God, we will, in turn, become more filled.

The Wounded Warrior - Psalm 127:4-5, Malachi 4:6, Colossians 3:13, Romans 15:7
Sometimes we have trouble understanding our relationship with God when we had a poor relationship with our earthly father. The man wounded by his father can be trapped by performance and desiring approval for his entire life. Remember that we have been forgiven and accepted by our heavenly father. Dads can empower their sons by telling them that they believe in them, they are proud of them, and no matter what they will always love them.

When Dad Wonders How - Philippians 4:6-7, Matthew 6:31, James 1:5, Proverbs 14:26, Philippians 4:19, Deuteronomy 6:6-9, Ephesians 4:32, 5:25, 6:4, 1 Corinthians 10:13, 1 John 1:9
Dads, and the rest of us, need to seek God's help when we worry, when need strength, lack wisdom, are concerned about the future, face financial troub le, when there family tensions, when you are tempted, when you need forgiveness, when we need assurance. When God is left out of the decision making, it can be a disaster. God is always right there to keep us from being overwhelmed.

Why A Warrior Prince Hesitates - Judges 6:11-12
Without encouragment, the warrior can be come passive. He will stop playing the game if he has no way to come out on top. This causes him to drift further from Christ, without whom, he is not worth anything. The warrior can defeat the fear of failure. Encouragement from others, such as a spouse, or other person, can show the warrior that he truely is a warrior. The warrior will rise to these expectations and become the man God wants him to be. Unsheath your sword!

The Warrior Prince Passion - Nehemiah 4:14, Genesis 3:6, Psalm 78:9, 1 Samuel 18:6-9, John 2:14-17
Warriors need someone to protect, and a kingdom we want to advance. Nehemiah encouraged the men of his time to fight for their brothers, sons, daughters, wives, and houses! The warrior passion consumed them! Until you find that passion you are willing to give your life for, you will have never truely lived. We will build either a personal kingdom or the kingdom of God. Are you going to be removed or fight for the passion in your life?

The Warrior Prince Distraction - 1 John 2:14-17, Hebrews 12:1-2, 2 Samuel 10:12
We try to keep our focus straight ahead us, but a lustful desire for earthly things begins the deviation from the mark God has set for us. That small deviation leads us far from where God wanted us to be. We desert our heavely post in persuit of an earthly kingdom. When Nathan confronted David ("ata ish" - you are the man), David realized how far his small deviation of staying back at home during the war had taken him.

Hey God! These People Are Driving Me Nuts! - Matthew 26
We all have needs, but what about the people who need some much they drive you nuts? The incurably insecure, the drama queens and kings, yakers ("vocal woodpeckers"), and financial leeches - people who don't seem to ever get past the needy phase. There are three ways we can help without enabling. First, we need to give people what they need, not just what they want. Second, pay attention to actions, not to words. Lastly, love people enough to let them fail and face their own consequences.

Hey God! Life's a Pain - James 1:2-4
"Weebles woble but they don't fall down!" We too can take hits but we don't have to stay down. Trials, or tests, can produce a spiritual toughness and a mature faith. Hit, after hit, the devil keeps the hits coming to your weakest points or your recent victories. Don't give up! James says this kind of pain is going to build endurance and strength. We can find joy even when surrounded by trials knowing that our spiritual stamina is growing. With the help of our King, we don't have to stay down!

Hey God! Send the Other Guy - Exodus 3&4
We come up with all kinds of excuses not to what God call us to do. Excuses like "Who am i?" "What Shall I say?" "What if they won't listen?" "I'm not eloquent." "Send someone else!" Moses had those exact excuses. God gave him Aaron, three incredible signs, encouragement and words, but he still had the attitude of "Here I am Lord, send Aaron." Somewhere along the way Moses finally got it and we do not see him use Aaron for communication.

Easter Sunday - various references
Remember WWJD? We should ask "What DID Jesus do?" We all have the need to be saved. At Jesus' death, all our sins, past and present, were placed on him not as a covering of sin, but the removal of sin. Jesus would have died for you if you were the only person on earth. No one took Jesus' life, he gave it up freely for all of us.

Hey God! There's a Worm in My Apple - Genesis 3:6-19
We have to keep ourselves from falling into the lies of the devil. Satan temps us but we do the sinning. We have to take personal responsibility for our sins instead of trying to pass it on to someone else. We can attempt to justify our actions, but in the end, there will be guilt. There are five ways to get rid of this guilt; repent, xx, forgiveness, restitution, and a change in our behavior.

AWESOME - Psalm 139:1-4
How big is your god? Our God is omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent, simple, unity, infinite, eternal, immutable, immense and sovereign, How can we relate to a god as AWESOME as God? We can approach God because He is also personal, loving, and approachable.

Little Things Count - II Samuel 6:1-11
God doesn't settle for second best. Perez-uzzah figured that out too late. God had specific provisions for his ark. We are commanded to do things His way. We need to remember that the little things are necessary, ministry fails because we don't pay attention to the little things, and God tells us that the little things count.

The Second Chance God - Genesis 3:1-6
God sees all sin as a divide between us and Him, however, he gives us a second chance at repentance. God gave the first disobeyer, Adam, a second chance in the garden. The murderer and adulterer, David, was also given a second chance by God. Even Peter, the denier and coward, and John Mark, the deserter, were given second chances. Even we are given a second chance to get to know God through his son, Jesus.

The Flea Bag Anthology - Daniel 6:1-24
Daniel was a man of prayer and knew that God answered prayer. We should be men and women of prayer by being a person of prayer, always putting God first, and knowing that God is always in control. Even when acused and sentenced, Daniel continued praying and was saved by God. We should pray about our problems and then let God take care of it instead of trying to control them ourselves.

Non-Political Bush - Exodus 3:1-6
We are a ragety old bush set apart for God's purpose, set apart as one of His children to be holy. Where do we find God and what do we do when we find Him? We get to know God by spending time with God. We need to get out of the side-lined Christian mentality we have devloped. We need to get involved in God's church. There is a place for everyone to serve. There is a place for every single person. Don't play the excuses game with God. Instead become part of His body.

The Rock Chucker - 1 Samuel 17:26-51
Sometimes we feel like quiting. God hasn't given up on us so we shouldn't either. David provided a strong example of how we should reponse when he faced Goliath. We need to remember that our God is able, He is able to use us, He is able to use us just as you are, and He is able to use you right now. When we are called by God, He expects immediate response.

Chicken of the Sea - Jonah 2:1-10
We can't out run God and get away from our problems. God is everywhere. Jonah was commissioned to go to Nineva but he fled. We need to remember that God doesn't promise that we'll be comfortable where he calls us. There is no magic "pixie dust" that he sprinkles on us to make things comfortable. Also, God speaks the loudest when we're the quietest (Psalm 46:10). In our low times, we need to use the "ACTS" - Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Suplication. We need to stop running from God and come back to business.

Man's Best Friend - Various References
In our friendships, do we always get along well? Do we never get on each others' nerves? Is everything always rosy? Of course not. However, there are some characteristics of true friends. They hold nothing back, never count the cost, allow you to be you, and always encourage you. Jonathan stood up to his father, Saul, on behalf of his best friend David. Relationships with these qualities will last a lifetime! Marriage is also based friendship, but the most important relationship we can have is with Christ. Our friendship with God cannot start until we receive Christ as our Savior.

It's Not the Dog in the Fight, It's the Fight in the Dog - John 14:6-13
We need to try and be the "can-dos" instead of the "we-be-nots" or "coasters". Caleb, whose name means "raging with canine madness", was called into the ministry after 40 years of preparation. He didn't lie down when his convictions met opposition. Like Caleb, we need to remember that ministry is hard, there are no free rides or free lunches, and that God rewards faithfulness.

Moo-ology - Philippians 4:8-9
We need continuously practice things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, good report, excellent, and vituous in the same way ruminate cows chew their cud. We need to dwell on peace and harmony instead of allowing things to fester in our mind and heart. To think properly, we need to have godly models in our mind. We always need to do what is morally and spiritually excellent.

Worry Wart Removal - Philippians 4:4-7
Rejoice in the Lord always! When we want to fix worries in our lives, we need to stop the behavior that is causing the worry. We need to move worries from our "worry list" over to our prayer list. We need to remember to practice the presence of God and cast our worries on to Christ and quit trying to reel them back in. The surgical procedure for Worry Wart Removal is rejoice, relax, and rest.

The Brawling Bride - Philippians 4:4-7
Churches, including ours, will have conflict. Christians need to stand firm on the principles of the Bible. We need to be able to disagree without being disagreeable. When others ask for forgiveness, we need to be quick to offer it. If we are carrying around grudges or other "junk-in-the-trunk", then we need to let it go.

All of the Whos in Whoville - Luke 2:1-20
Who are we as a church and where are we going? We can't save the world by holding hands around a Christmas tree and singing "Fah Hoo Forres". The fundamental problem in the Grinch Who Stole Christmas was isolation. We can never become guilty of ignoring our church family on account of a denomination, social status, or being a new kid on the block, instead, embrace them because of who we are in Christ. Our hope should be that families in our community would come to know, love, and serve Jesus Christ. Let's begin serving the Lord by serving each other.

Believer's Dumpster Diving - Philippians 3:7-11
Where have we placed our confidence? Popularity? Posessions? Abilities? Saul's had all those things. However, after experiencing the the "Damascas Flash", he counted them all as rubish, trash, and garbage. Christ became his one and only credit. Trusting in our own accomplishments will leave us spiritually bankrupt. Trusting in Christ's accomplishment on the cross will give Him the glory and will provide us with perfect righteousness forever.
